Salaamun Alaikum,

In a follow-up to “$how me the money” seminar held last month for youths, the next step is to provide a session on careers on May 24th, 2008 for boys and girls aged 14 to 25. For this we would like to request your assistance in presenting a career options to our youth.

We would appreciate it if you would fill out the career descriptor form. Also if you know of others in different fields, feel free to pass on the form. As time is short could you please complete the form and e-mail it to umm-muhammad@shaw.ca by May 14th, 2008.

Building Leadership within the Muslim Community

Aim
The primary aim of this programme is to develop leadership capacity across the Muslim communities in North America. The type of leaders that will enable the Muslim community to develop strategies to contribute fully for the common good of both the Muslim and wider society. This course will also allow participants to realize their own leadership styles and to enhance and evolve their skills to ensure more productive and efficient working methods.

Philosophy
The educational principles underpinning the programme use adult learning models and require participants to fully and actively engage in the process of learning. The programme will enable participants to explore assumptions, beliefs and attitudes about themselves, the organisations in which they work, the environments in which they operate and the wider society – in order to enable them to ‘do differently’ where necessary and possible in their everyday lives.

Participant Profile
Participants will be selected by the following criteria:

Track record of participating and serving within the Muslim community
Age 25-50 years with a minimum of 3 years of work experience
Can give commitment of time and energy to benefit from the programme
Has creative ideas and wants to shape and influence the future
Wishes to learn from experience, group work, as well as formal teaching situations

Az Zahraa Islamic Academy Call for Applications

The School Board of the Az-Zahraa Islamic Academy currently has vacancies for the positions of Treasurer and Member at Large. The School Board is hereby taking applications for the two afore mentioned positions. Those interested should provide a letter outlining the position they are interested in and how they see themselves contributing to the academy. Applications should be emailed to the Director of Education, Br. Hameed Jagani (hameedjagani@hotmail.com), no later than May 20, 2008.

Please note that all School Board positions are voluntary in nature and there is no renumeration.

The Treasurer and Member at Large positions are two year terms.

Ladies Management Committee (LMC) - Nominations for Position of Chairlady

The Nominations Committee is accepting nominations for the position of Chairlady for the term 2008-2009. To submit your nomination, please contact any member of the Nominations Committee or deposit your nomination in the secured box located in the Ladies Imambargha (which will be available as of Thursday March 6, 2008). Please note that only Valid Full Members and those who have in the past been a member of the Ladies Management Committee of the SMCBC can run for the position of Chair. As per the Ladies Guidelines, the deadline for submissions of nominations is March 27, 2008 (and NOT February 29, 2008 as announced previously).

It is that time of year already! The LMC is collecting subscription renewals. Don't forget to give your $50.00 fee to the treasurer, Sister Zehrabanu Dewji by March 1st 2008.

Nominations for the position of chairlady are now being accepted by the nomination committee: Sukaina Jaffer, Shirin Merali and Masuma Fazal. Nominations will be accepted until February 29th 2008.

Interested in giving a Youth Lecture?

The Ashura program will begin at 10am with Amaal of Ashura, followed by Zohr/Asr Salaat, Marsiya, Majlis, Azadari, Ziarat, and Niaz.
